Ole Gunnar Solskajer must deliver a trophy this season or risk losing his job at Manchester United.

That’s the view of Arsenal legend Martin Keown, who also feels getting the best out of Paul Pogba could be key to turning things around at Old Trafford.

United sit fourth in the Premier League table ahead of their clash with Leicester this afternoon and while they have only suffered one league defeat this season, many of their performances have been below par.

With the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane in the summer, Solskjaer finally has a squad capable of challenging for the title.

And Keown says it’s now or never for the Norwegian to step up and deliver.

‘This is the season for me where they need to do something,’ Keown said on Football Focus.

‘If they don’t win a trophy this year I don’t think Solskjaer can sustain his stay there.

‘This is Manchester United we’re talking about. They’ve got to win trophies.

‘What will it be? Nearly 10 years now if they don’t win one this year so I think the pressure is on a little bit.’

One of the criticisms of Solskjaer’s tactics has been his midfield selections with Fred and Scott McTominay his preferred choice as holding midfielders.

Pogba has been played further forward, sometimes on the wing, but showed he can play in the defensive midfield role by starring in France’s Nations League triumph earlier this month.

Keown has warned Solskjaer he needs to get the best out of Pogba just like Didier Deschamps has with France.

‘It’s a bit of a puzzle for Manchester United,’ Keown added.

‘It’s a little bit like what [Frank] Lampard had before [Thomas] Tuchel went in. It’s about sorting that puzzle.

‘It’s about resolving the midfield balance.

‘I watched Pogba play for France winning the Nations League in midweek and he was absolutely brilliant playing deep… and we’re told he can’t play there for Manchester United.

‘He needs to sort out that conundrum in midfield, create the service then for what he’s got in front of him which is an array of talent.

‘We’re talking about Rashford… I don’t think that helps him by the way, I think that puts him under a little bit of pressure but nonetheless it would be nice to see him doing what he’s famous for.’
