Mark Busby, USA Gymnastics’ controversial general counsel who came under heavy criticism for his and the organization’s handling of a series of high profile abuse cases, has left the sport’s national governing body.
USA Gymnastics confirmed Busby’s departure in a statement Wednesday to the Southern California News Group.
“Earlier this month, Mark Busby, USA Gymnastics Safe Sport Legal Counsel, announced his decision to leave the organization,” the statement said. “His last day was January 15, 2021. We greatly appreciate Mark’s 3+ years of service and wish him the best on his future endeavors.”
Busby was hired by USA Gymnastics in August 2017 as the organization scrambled to do damage control in the wake of the Larry Nassar scandal. Busby had previously spent 13 years working in the Marion County prosecutor’s office in Indianapolis.
Busby’s Linkedin page states that he has rejoined the Marion County prosecutor’s office.
