Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is potentially facing surgery after playing with a shoulder injury this season, according to reports.

The 23-year-old has been hampered by a shoulder problem against Everton in November.

Rashford, who has already made 42 appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this season, has been criticised for his recent performances against Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

But according to The Telegraph, Rashford continues to play with discomfort and may need surgery to fix the problem after England’s European Championship campaign this summer.

The report claims that United’s players have been ‘amazed’ by Rashford’s determination to continue playing through the pain, especially as it hinders his mobility and ability to hold off opponents.

Speaking about Rashford’s shoulder issue earlier this season, Solskjaer said: ‘Marcus, he’ll run through a brick wall for you and that’s the type of lad he is.

‘We’ve just got to be fingers crossed it doesn’t get worse because at the moment it is still manageable.

‘How serious is it? At the moment he’s getting that tiredness towards the end or that soreness towards the end that stops him from completing the games.’

United are also set to assess Anthony Martial ahead of their clash with Manchester City this weekend after the France international missed Wednesday’s goalless draw with Crystal Palace due to a knee injury.

David De Gea was also absent for the stalemate against Palace due to personal reasons and Dean Henderson is now set to be given an extended run in the side.
