Manchester United set price for opening Jadon Sancho transfer offer ahead of summer window

Manchester United are expected to launch a bid for Jadon Sancho in the region of £65million to £75m when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season, reports claim. The Borussia Dortmund star has long been on the club’s radar. And, after four years of intense interest, a move to Old Trafford could finally be about to happen.

Manchester United have long admired Sancho.

They first tried to sign him during his time at Manchester City and, in the years since, have remained strong admirers.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer himself is a big fan of Sancho, believing he’d be the perfect player alongside Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes in attack.

And Eurosport say United plan to offer around £65m to £75m for the 21-year-old at the end of the campaign.

While that’s the case, however, Dortmund would prefer to cash in on their prized asset for around £85m instead.

But United don’t want to go that high while the coronavirus crisis rumbles on, mindful of shattering any records.

Sancho was on the Red Devils’ radar back in the summer and talked to Rashford about playing together at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer pressed the hierarchy to strike a deal but Joel Glazer, ultimately, decided that Dortmund’s £108m asking price was too high to meet.

United then swooped for Edinson Cavani instead, giving the Uruguay international the No 7 shirt previously reserved for Sancho.

Yet they’re primed to reignite interest and could finally bring him to Old Trafford after four years of intense interest.

Sancho isn’t the only player on United’s radar, either.

Declan Rice has been earmarked as a target, with the West Ham star helping David Moyes’ side challenge for a place in the Champions League this term.

John Murtough and Darren Fletcher are both sold on the signing of Rice but one sticking point could be the Hammers’ huge £100m asking price.

At the back, Raphael Varane is also on the club’s agenda.

The Real Madrid star nearly moved to Old Trafford back in the summer transfer window of 2011, when Sir Alex Ferguson ruled the roost.

But he ended up moving to the Bernabeu instead after Zinedine Zidane personally intervened, tempting him into moving to Spain instead.

United have Jules Kounde and Pau Torres as possible alternatives, with the pair shining for Sevilla and Villarreal respectively this term.

And a right-back is also being targeted.

United were linked with Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier back in January and could revive interest in the former Tottenham star.

And Max Aarons has been tipped to join, too, having helped Norwich City secure promotion back to the Premier League.

Regarding Sancho, Louis Saha expressed a belief earlier this season that Sancho would be the perfect addition to Solskjaer’s side.

“It’s unfortunate Man Utd couldn’t get deals in place for Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho last summer because they are two amazing players,” Saha told Ladbrokes.

“I know less about Grealish but I think he would have fitted perfectly into this team – but for me, I’m sorry, Sancho is just such an unbelievable player.

“He’s unpredictable, he’s such a great talent and if he was playing for United with Bruno Fernandes, you just know as a striker you’re going to score goals because of the two of those.

“Man Utd did miss out on the two of them in the summer, but hopefully they’ll have another chance to sign them soon.”

He then added: “My choice of the two would be Sancho over Grealish.

“Both are amazing players and they’d improve any side. They’re so confident and would be really useful for Man Utd’s strikers.

“Fernandes has done a great job in helping United since arriving earlier this year, so could you imagine what another player of his level would do to the team?”
