Manchester United have asked Tottenham to keep them ‘informed’ on Christian Eriksen’s future with a view to signing the midfielder in a deal worth £70million.

The Dane confirmed his intention to leave Spurs after their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League final at the end of last season.

The 27-year-old has one year left on his deal in north London and, though Spurs have not given up hope of persuading him to sign a new deal, they’re determined to block him leaving on a free transfer in 2020.

United are long-term admirers of the Dane but Spurs are notoriously difficult to deal with and are unlikely to agree a deal with a Premier League rival.

Nevertheless, the Daily Mail claim United have asked the club to keep them in the loop and to confirm whether they’d be willing to let him move to Old Trafford.

Solskjaer wants replacements for Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini, while he’s desperate to keep Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman remains keen on leaving and is open to moves to either Real Madrid or Juventus.

Should one of those clubs meet United’s £150m valuation for Pogba then the club are likely to increase their interest in Eriksen but it remains to be seen whether the club would sell to a direct rival.

Ed Woodward will not attend the China leg of United’s pre-season tour as he has decided to stay in the UK to conclude transfer business.

United are working on a deal for Leicester ace Harry Maguire, while they have not accepted defeat in a bid to sign Sean Longstaff.
