Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand slammed Juventus following their Champions League defeat to Porto, describing their performance as ‘horrendous’.

Italian champions Juventus conceded early goals in both halves as they slipped to a 2-1 loss in the first leg of their last-16 tie with Portuguese side Porto.

Despite struggling for large spells, Juventus gave themselves hope ahead of the return leg when Federico Chiesa scored a crucial away goal on 62 minutes.

Following the Champions League clash, former United and England defender Ferdinand told BT Sport: ‘They were horrendous, they were so bad.

‘They’re lucky to go away from this match with an away goal. Porto set themselves on the right foot in both halves and capitalised on the mistakes from Juventus.

‘The intent was there from Porto and they forced them into making mistakes.’

Ex-Premier League star Owen Hargreaves added: ‘That away goal gives Juventus a huge chance but Porto were by far the better team. They didn’t look like a Juventus team tonight.’

Porto won the Champions League under Jose Mourinho in 2004 and last reached the quarter-finals two seasons ago.

Juventus, meanwhile, have won the competition twice but lasted lifted the trophy in 2016. They were knocked out at this stage of the tournament last year by Lyon.
