Manchester United have held talks over a move for Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik, according to reports in Italy.

Milik had been close to joining Roma earlier this month but after Edin Dzeko’s proposed switch to Juventus fell through, the Poland international’s future is now uncertain.

Tottenham have already held discussions over a deal for Milik as Jose Mourinho wants to sign a striker who can ease the workload on Harry Kane.

But according to Rai Sports reporter Ciro Venerato, United have also made an approach for Milik.

‘An intermediary told me that there’s informal talks with Leipzig, Manchester City, Manchester United, Fulham and Tottenham,’ Venerato told Radio Kiss Kiss.

‘The latter are the most reliable track, but the formula requested by Napoli does not convince Mourinho.’

United have made Jadon Sancho their priority target for this window but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also keen to recruit a new striker as well as a new central defender.

Milik, meanwhile, is expected to leave Napoli before the end of the window as the Serie A club are open to cashing in before the striker’s contract expires at the end of the season.

Last week, reports in Italy claimed that Napoli had accepted a €25 million (£22.8m) fee from Roma.

The 26-year-old, who scored 48 goals in 122 appearances for Napoli, has been left out his side’s two Serie A fixtures so far this season.
