Raphael Varane has decided to not renew his contract with Real Madrid but wants to join Paris Saint-Germain ahead of Manchester United, according to reports in Spain.

The 28-year-old’s current deal with the Spanish club is due to expire at the end of next season, which means he will be available to sign on a free transfer next summer.

Varane has not yet agreed new terms with Madrid and the La Liga side will be open to selling the centre-back in the current transfer window if he refuses to renew.

According to El Confidencial, Varane has already opted to not sign a new contract and Madrid are now hoping to get a €60 million (£51.5m) transfer fee for the France international.

The report also claims that Varane is wanted by United but the defender has attracted interest from PSG and his preference is to return to France.

Madrid, meanwhile, have identified Jules Kounde, who is also on United’s shortlist, as their first-choice replacement for Varane.

However, Sevilla are standing firm over Kounde’s availability and are demanding a €60m (£51.5m) transfer fee from Madrid.

Madrid, who appointed Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager at the start of this month, are also targeting Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

The Europa League winners are said to be asking for a €50m (£42.9m) fee for the 24-year-old.

Madrid also have Aymeric Laporte on their radar with the Spain international keen to leave Manchester City this summer. It’s understood that the 27-year-old’s preference would be a move to the Spanish capital to either Madrid or Atletico.

‘The player wants to come to Madrid and he doesn’t care if it’s Real Madrid or Atletico,’ a source close to Laporte told El Confidencial.

‘His new status as a Spanish international has pushed him to make the decision to try to sign for one of the capital’s teams.’
