Like most top clubs in Europe, Manchester United’s transfer business is moving at a slow pace due to the European Championships.
It’s a hard time to get deals done – but it appears plenty of groundwork continues to take place behind the scenes.
And recent reports have seen four players emerge as the most likely signings for the Red Devils in a realistic scenario this summer.
Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, Kieran Trippier and Tom Heaton all appear to be amongst the realistic priorities for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with more ambitious moves for the likes of Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Cristiano Ronaldo unlikely.
United are believed to have already had bids rejected for Sancho and Varane, the two most costly of the players mentioned.
A gentleman’s agreement with Sancho is already in place regarding personal terms, but United’s first formal £67m bid to Borussia Dortmund fell short of their asking price.
Sancho’s contract has another two years left but Dortmund are open to selling him for the right price, eyeing £77m with another £4m in add-ons.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said: “He is allowed to move under specific circumstances.”

But they are likely to continue to pursue their long-term defensive target to partner Harry Maguire, with dialogue ongoing despite a reluctance to meet Madrid’s £80m asking price.
Moves for Sancho and Varane would cost a significant chunk of United’s budget but also solve two problem areas in the transfer market.
A move for Tom Heaton is close to being confirmed, adding back-up to their uncertain goalkeeping position.
Mirror Sport understands Dean Henderson is likely to start the season as No.1 after David de Gea’s Europa League final nightmare, although Heaton is believed to be returning to the club looking to challenge for the starting spot.
Kieran Trippier is also on the radar, with Sky Sports reporting he could cost £43million from Atletico Madrid.
Trippier would provide cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka but could well push for the starting spot given his performances at Atletico Madrid in their LaLiga triumph.
The four Manchester United signings that look likely to be on the cards would give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a strong starting line-up next season, as well as adding depth in some key areas as they aim to close the gap on Manchester City to launch a title challenge.
