Man Utd transfer roundup: Sancho and Henderson latest as Ole eyes Magalhaes

Manchester United are yet to show their hand after the summer transfer window officially opened this week.

Chelsea have made a strong start to their summer preparations, having already signed Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech this year. Meanwhile, Manchester City have had a £41million bid accepted for Nathan Ake and are expected to invest in a winger.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side secured Champions League football with an excellent run to close out the Premier League campaign and now need to add talent to the squad to compete with Liverpool and City at the sharp end of the table.

Here is the latest transfer round-up regarding the Red Devils’ potential transfer activity.

United confident of Sancho deal despite Liverpool links

Jadon Sancho reportedly reckons he would win more trophies at Liverpool

Kicker via Sports Mole, reports that longtime Manchester United target Jadon Sancho would prefer a move to rivals Liverpool over a switch to Old Trafford.

That is reportedly because he sees an easier path to winning trophies under Jurgen Klopp, following a Champions League and Premier League win in the last two seasons.

Klopp admitted previously that Liverpool considered a move for Sancho, but recognised that they realistically could not land the former Manchester City prospect.

Speaking in 2019, Klopp said: “Buying English players is a smart idea because we would never have a chance to get Sancho.

“We are not blind – we saw him, we liked him and then we think: ‘Can we get him?’ No. Because English clubs don’t sell to other English clubs.”

Despite mutual interest between Liverpool and Sancho, however, the Reds are not expected to make a move for the Borussia Dortmund winger this summer and United remain confident of sealing a deal, per Sky Sports.

United eye long-term Henderson deal

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to secure Dean Henderson’s long-term future

As Dean Henderson returns to Manchester United following an excellent second season on loan at Sheffield United, the club is keen to tie down the goalkeeper to a long-term contract as quickly as possible – ideally in the next two weeks, per reports.

According to Sky Sports, Ed Woodward and the club will assess their budgets in the next two weeks before determining what deals can be done with current players and potential signings. Henderson is a key part of United’s prospective work.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is extremely keen to sign Henderson to a new five-year deal and is not against having the 23-year-old battle the increasingly error-strewn David de Gea for the number one spot next season.

Henderson currently has two years with another option remaining on his current deal. But with a host of clubs interested – including Sheffield United, who would welcome him back on loan for another season, and Chelsea, who are searching for a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga – Solskjaer is eager to secure the keeper’s long-term future swiftly.

United enter Gabriel Magalhaes race

Gabriel Magalhaes is at the centre of a five-way transfer battle

Manchester United have entered a five-club race for Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bolster his central defensive options.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been ever-present for United this season, but with Eric Bailly suffering from injuries and Chris Smalling hoping to seal a permanent move to Roma following his year-long loan spell in Italy, Solskjaer wants to improve his starting options.

Gabriel, then, offers a perceived immediate upgrade.

The Brazilian was close to signing for Everton in a £20m move earlier this year. He even visited their training ground prior to lockdown.

However, that deal fell through and United have now entered the race to sign the 22-year-old, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal, Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain.

Everton’s interest has cooled as the season has progressed, but Arsenal are extremely keen to add a centre-back.

They will have to offload a couple of defenders before they can spend, while PSG and Napoli are watching developments closely.
