Man Utd may already have Nemanja Matic replacement who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave debut

Despite not necessarily being a regular starter under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Nemanja Matic is one of the safest pairs of hands at Manchester United. However, the Serbian midfielder will be 33 years old by the start of next season, and a replacement must surely be being considered soon.

Manchester United may already have the perfect replacement for Nemanja Matic in their ranks.

Serbian midfielder Matic will be 33 years old by the start of next season, and it would be a huge surprise if he played past his contract which ends in 2023.

Despite not necessarily being a regular starter under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he has always been a safe pair of hands for United since joining from Chelsea in 2017.

When Matic does finally decide to hang up his boots or move elsewhere to wind down his career, there will be a gaping hole left in his place.

But Solskjaer may already have the ideal replacement on the club’s books – and he even gave him his debut.

That man is James Garner, who is currently out on loan Nottingham Forest.

Garner has made a handful of first team appearances for United, but has spent this season on loan at Watford before switching to Forest, where he has impressed.

The 19-year-old can play in central-midfield or defensive-midfield, and even grabbed his first senior goal recently against Derby.

He said of the strike: “The goal was a good feeling, that is my first professional goal.

“I have had a lot of chances this season and the ball just hasn’t gone in the back of the net. So for it to go in, it was quite fortunate as I didn’t hit the ball as sweet as I could have but I am made up.

“I know that if I can get the ball out of my feet on the edge of the box, I can score goals.

“I have done it growing up through the academy so when I do get the chance to have a go from the edge of the box, it doesn’t faze me and it is something that I need to keep on adding to my game.”
