Man Utd eye transfer move for Bundesliga star dubbed the 'new Michael Ballack'

Manchester United are tracking Hoffenheim midfielder Christoph Baumgartner as they weigh up a summer move.

The Austrian has been hailed as one of the finest talents to come out of his country in recent years.

Despite being just 21 he’s become a regular with Hoffenheim and attracted plenty of plaudits in Germany.

Baumgartner was given his debut by current RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann and has continued to go from strength to strength.

United have been tracking the midfielder who could be a summer target, reports The Sun.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be looking to bolster his options in that area, especially if Paul Pogba opts to move on as is suggested.

Christoph Baumgartner is a Hoffenheim regular

Baumgartner is valued at around £16, but that number is only set to increase given his performances.

Hoffenheim have the Austrian under contract until 2023 meaning they are not yet under any pressure to sell.

The lure of a top club though may force their hand.

Already this season Baumgartner has three goals and five assists in 17 Bundesliga outings while also contributing in the Europa League.

This follows on from an impressive display last term when he scored seven times in 26 league appearances.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has appeared to rule out any late arrivals in Manchester this month.

Amad Diallo was signed in the summer but only joined up with his team-mates recently.

Otherwise though the Norwegian expects his squad to remain as it is, although a loan departure for Jesse Lingard could still be on the cards.

“I wouldn’t think so, no,” he said when asked about more signings.

“I would be surprised if we do any incomings. The squad is strong. It is full of quality.

“I still need to leave players out for the squad at times. Bar something surprising happening I don’t think anything will happen in terms of incomings, no.”
