Manchester United have joined the race to sign Lille defender Gabriel.
Everton looked red-hot favourites to get the Brazilian centre half and were close to doing a £20m deal and the 22-year-old even visited their training ground before lockdown.
But they now face serious competition as United have also made contact along with Arsenal, Napoli and Paris Saint Germain because the centre half could be available for a bargain price.
Everton appear to be cooling and concentrating on other priorities while United are keen to bring in another centre half to bolster their squad this summer.
United are ready to sell Chris Smalling with Roma keen to sign him permanently after a season-long loan, although the Serie A club are only offering £12m.
United want closer to £20m but it would mean they are in the market and they have now asked to kept informed on Gabriel.
Arsenal are also keen to strengthen their squad this summer and may look to shake up their defence despite having William Saliba arriving from St Etienne this summer.
But if they can offload some players then they are also hoping to strengthen their squad if finances allow them.
Paris Saint Germain are also watching developments closely after Gabriel’s impressive season with Lille in France.
Napoli are also keen as they look for potential replacements for Kalidou Koulibaly who is a summer target for Manchester City.
Meanwhile United are still working on a deal to take Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford.
Borussia Dortmund are still holding out for around £100million for the winger and are demanding most of that be paid up front.
United are not keen to go that high but are confident of arranging a structured deal which would see them pay some of the fee in installments.
