The Madison Police Department received numerous reports October 27 of automobile burglaries in the Reunion Subdivision in Madison that had apparently occurred during the overnight or early morning hours. Investigation by responding officers determined that all of the vehicles involved were left unlocked the previous evening. Numerous items, including cash, wallets, firearms, and purses were taken from the unlocked vehicles.
Further investigation of the burglaries has led to the arrest of an individual identified as Trevor S. Simmons, age 19, of Petal. Simmons has been charged with auto burglary. Some of the stolen property has also been recovered. Investigators were also able to identify two more suspects involved in the incidents. Elijah T. Walker, age 18, of Petal has also been arrested and charged with auto burglary. A male juvenile suspect is still at large.
Residents are strongly reminded to always lock their vehicles and not to leave valuable items inside them. Leaving valuable items in unlocked cars and trucks creates tempting opportunities for would-be thieves. “Please do your part in helping to keep Madison crime-free by locking your vehicles.”
