Liverpool are no strangers to sensational transfer proposals, with Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah at the centre of some of the most-gripping stories of the summer window
Transfer update: Liverpool plan more exits plus van de Beek news
Liverpool’s shrewd approach in the transfer market in recent seasons has earned sporting director Michael Edwards widespread praise.
The Reds are regarded as net spend experts who have managed to balance the books while pulling off big-money moves for the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Mohamed Salah.
But Jurgen Klopp’s side are no strangers to a sensational proposal as they look to bring the finest talents to Merseyside.
Of course, things work both ways and Liverpool’s rivals across Europe have also moved to poach stars from the Anfield ranks.
Here are four of the most audacious transfer proposals in Liverpool’s recent history.

Seldom few players have featured for Manchester United and Liverpool over the years, and only nine direct transfers have occurred between the clubs – most-recently in 1964 – throughout their long and rich histories.
Yet this week there were reports Paul Pogba could seal one of the most-controversial transfers in Premier League history by departing United for Liverpool.
Pogba, 28, has less than 12 months remaining on his contract at Old Trafford and super-agent Mino Raiola previously declared his client is “unhappy”.
The midfielder is heavily linked with a return to his homeland to play for Paris Saint-Germain, but reports in France claim Raiola has also offered his services to the Reds.
Le10sport add that Liverpool are not considering a bid for Pogba this summer, but they could step up their interest in January, by which time he will have just six months left on his deal.
Speaking of players who have less than 12 months left on their deals, Liverpool stepped up their long-term interest in Kylian Mbappe by submitting a transfer enquiry to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer.
That’s according to Marca , which claims the Reds would need to sell players in order to fund a bid for Mbappe, who is considered invaluable at Le Parc des Princes despite his contract situation.
Liverpool are believed to have transfer listed five players with a view to funding further business this summer, with a marquee arrival in attack mooted.
But Anfield chiefs may prefer to wait until next year to land Mbappe, as they will be free to enter talks with the 22-year-old’s representatives in January.
Salah’s PSG talks
As Liverpool keep close tabs on Paris Saint-Germain talisman Kylian Mbappe, the French club are said to be doing just the same regarding Reds hero Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian forward has two years remaining on his contract and little progress has been made in negotiations over a new deal, mirroring Mbappe to a certain extent.
Salah has previously talked-up a move to La Liga to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid, but PSG have made the first move to sign the 29-year-old.
That’s according to French newspaper L’Equipe , which claimed in May that PSG chiefs are in touch with Salah’s representatives over a possible transfer.
Salah-Mbappe swap deal, anyone?
Elliot’s Real Madrid visit
Not many teenagers turn down Real Madrid – nor many players in general – but Harvey Elliott did just that after a visit to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2020, when the race for his services was at its most fierce.
Elliott had burst onto the scene with Fulham and became the youngest player to feature in the Premier League at 16 years and 30 days.
The Englishman had a host of admirers and Los Blancos sought to lure him to the Spanish capital with a tour of their fabled facilities.
However, things did not go to plan when Real Madrid chiefs asked Elliott if he would like to meet then-club captain Sergio Ramos; the youngster turned down their offer on account of Ramos’ notorious tackle on Mohamed Salah in the 2018 Champions League final.
Elliott would go on to join Liverpool and shone on loan at Blackburn Rovers last season, while he has been tipped to play a prominent role in the upcoming campaign.
