Manager Jurgen Klopp goes into the new season searching to replace Georginio Wijnaldum in midfield and add another dimension to a faltering attack.
Things started brightly with highly-rated French centre-back Ibrahima Konate signing in May from RB Leipzig for £36 million.
However, news on incomings has been quiet since, with the only pre-season positives being the return of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to training, while no reports of any other stars leaving have emerged.
The Reds fan base is levelling its frustration with the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, thanks to a so-far underwhelming summer transfer window.
Nevertheless, there is no shortage of news and speculation doing the rounds and Mirror Football has it all here for you, every day of the week.
Henderson future uncertain
Tuesday morning saw a shock story for Liverpool supporters regarding their captain.
The Athletic reported that while talks over an extension between Jordan Henderson and the club have taken place, no significant progress has been made.
Although negotiations are said to have not broken down with dialogue continuing, the situation is sensitive and complicated.
With Henderson’s contract expiring in the summer of 2023, there is no particular rush, but Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be keeping a close eye on developments at Anfield.
Atletico Madrid are also said to be in the mix due to the 31-year-old Henderson still being good friends with Luis Suarez, who would relish the prospect of being reunited with his former Reds team-mate at the Spanish champions.
The situation is certainly uncertain, but Liverpool will not want to lose their skipper for free and without a ready-made replacement.
United edging Saul race
Saul has recently been involved in a potential swap deal between the La Liga title winners and Barcelona that would see Antoine Griezmann return to the Wanda Metropolitano.
Would Saul be an ideal Wijnaldum replacement? Comment below.
With that move stalling due to Barca’s valuation of Griezmann, Aguilar claims that the Spanish midfielder’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, is now advancing the negotiations with United, who are said to have moved into pole position for the 26-year-old.
Saul possesses similar qualities to Wijnaldum, so would be an adept replacement, but is now seeming tough to acquire.
Phillips a target for Brighton
The centre-back emerged as an unlikely hero for Liverpool last term, with his physical prowess proving crucial to Klopp and co’s spring upturn in form.
The Seagulls reportedly see Phillips as the ideal replacement for Ben White, set to join Arsenal for £50 million, so funds should be available.
Graham Potter’s side are not alone in their interest but have marked the towering 24-year-old “leading contender” to replace the berth left vacant by White.
