Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson at heart of Jurgen Klopp's Rhys Williams decision

Jurgen Klopp has a big decision to make this evening when he names his Liverpool team to face West Ham. While the players may already know who gets the nod at the heart of defence, supporters will be left wondering just who gets the nod to replace Fabinho at the back.

The Brazilian has stepped up to the plate admirably since Virgil van Dijk’s injury, slotting in alongside Joe Gomez.

Joel Matip’s fitness remains an issue for the Reds and the Cameroonian has shown he cannot be relied on anymore due to his injury struggles.

Liverpool decided against replacing Dejan Lovren in the summer and there may now be an element of regret.

Nonetheless, the Reds now have to think on their feet and youngster Rhys Williams now looks set for a start against the Hammers.

Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita were assessed yesterday ahead of the match with West Ham and that too may have a bearing on any decision.

Henderson was summoned to centre-back at the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar in the 2-1 win over Mexican side Monterrey.

After the game in December 2019, he said: “That was different. I had fantastic players around me, and they helped me out. It was different to anything that I have been used to. I’ve played at full-back, but I’ve never played there before.

“I just tried to do my best for the team and thankfully we got the win.
