Lille are interested in snapping up Angel Gomes on a free transfer after the teenager left Manchester United this summer at the end of his contract.

The 19-year-old had been offered a new deal at Old Trafford but chose to leave after spending 14 years at the club.

Chelsea were strongly linked with a move for the creative midfielder, but that appears to have fizzled out and his future is up in the air.

Sky Sports report that Lille are ready to make a move for the England Under-20 international and some negotiations have already taken place.

Spanish outfit Almeria are also interested in Gomes, as are a number of clubs in England, although they would have to agree a compensation package with Manchester United.

A switch to Stamford Bridge had seemed likely, but Chelsea boss Frank Lampard denied making an approach for Gomes at the end of June when his contract was coming to an end.

With the Blues already agreeing deals to sign Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner this summer and a possible move for Kai Havertz in the offing, Gomes would be unlikely to gain the first team football he craves in west London.

A lack of first team opportunities appears to be the chief reason the teenager has left Old Trafford, making just 10 appearances for the club so far ahead of his 20th birthday next month.

United had been keen to keep hold of the prospect, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saying in June: ‘You can ask Angel why he’s not signed.

‘I don’t know what the talks are behind the scenes. Angel’s a top kid.

‘Of course, there are people around him that advise him to do different things. If he doesn’t sign, all the best to Angel and I’m going to follow his career. If he signs for us, let’s kick on.’
