Levante goalkeeper reveals ‘contact’ from Arsenal
Levante goalkeeper Aitor Fernandez has admitted Arsenal contacted him over a potential switch to the Emirates.
The Gunners were searching for a replacement for Emiliano Martinez in the summer after his move to Aston Villa.
They eventually chose to sign Dijon’s Runar Alex Rúnarsson, but Fernandez was considered as an alternative.
Asked in an interview with AS – via Sport Witness – about interest from Arsenal, the 29-year-old said: “Yes, it’s true that there have been contacts. Quite a few clubs have asked, and those are two of them.
“But here I have been very happy, and I hope to continue being so.”
Arsenal targeting Brazilian youngster
Arsenal are interested in signing another emerging Brazilian youngster in the form of Sao Paulo forward Brenner, according to the Daily Mail .
The 20-year-old has also been identified as a target for Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and Milan after scoring 17 goals in 27 appearances in the Brazilian top flight this term.
After the shrewd addition of Gabriel Martinelli in 2018, Arsenal technical director Edu could look to repeat his trick.
Brenner has a release clause in his contract of £45 million. However, Sao Paulo may be willing to accept as little as half their figure due to the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
