Jurgen Klopp aimed a not-so-subtle dig at Manchester United after dispatching Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side at Anfield, saying they didn’t try to play football ‘too often’ and were instead too focused on ‘annoying’ his team.

Goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah saw Klopp’s unbeaten side move 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League, with a game in hand over their title rivals, with most believing the title race is completely sewn up.

Klopp, while not getting carried away with regards to the title being won, was delighted with the performance of his troops against their bitter rivals, but he could not resist a dig at Solskjaer’s team for their lack of ambition.

‘What a performance against an opponent with the quality of United, and the set up of United,’ Klopp told Sky Sports.

‘Ole will say the same, they wanted to annoy us, distract our game, defend and counter attack. They had moments when they played football but not too often, the other moments it was difficult to create chances, but the manner we created chances was exceptional.’

Pouring cold water on the home fans chanting “we’re going to win the league”, Klopp added: ‘Nothing has changed, we have the same situation plus three points.

‘I will tell you immediately the moment if it feels different, at the moment it doesn’t.

‘I have no idea whether we will be caught or not, I don’t care. First and foremost it’s the Premier League.

‘We play Wolves on Thursday, it’s our next exceptional challenge. I don’t have enough space in my brain to contemplate anything else.’
