The head of Riverside County’s Transportation & Land Management Agency will temporarily oversee county government’s day-to-day affairs when the county executive officer retires Dec. 16.
The Board of Supervisors this week named Juan Perez as interim county executive officer. Perez, who is not seeking the permanent job, will take over from CEO George Johnson, a 30-year county government veteran who announced in September his plan to retire from the post he’s held since 2017.
Perez started with the county in 2001 as a road division engineer and became agency director in 2012. In a Wednesday, Oct. 21, news release, Johnson praised Perez as “a dedicated public servant, with strong leadership values and an incredible work ethic.”
The county is spending $50,000 on a recruitment firm for a nationwide search for Johnson’s permanent successor. A new CEO is expected to be named in early 2021.
