JET2 has cancelled the rest of their flights and holidays to Crete and Zante until November, the tour operator has confirmed.
Both islands have been placed onto the UK’s quarantine list, with all arrivals forced to self-isolate for two weeks.
Jet2 made the decision just days after cancelling more holidays to the Canary Islands, also on the quarantine list.
According to TTG, a spokesperson explained: “Jet2holidays have taken the decision to extend the suspension of our flights and holidays programme to Crete and Zante due to the continued Covid-19 pandemic.
“All holidays departing up to and including 31 October 2020 will automatically be cancelled with a full refund.
“Customers in these destinations can continue to enjoy their holidays and we will be in touch regarding flights back to the UK.
EasyJet has also cut their flights to Greece.
The airline’s chief executive Johan Lundgren added, in relation to the Greece rules: “Following the imposition of additional quarantine restrictions to seven Greek islands and the continued uncertainty this brings for customers, demand is now likely to be further impacted and therefore lower than previously anticipated.
“We know our customers are as frustrated as we are with the unpredictable travel and quarantine restrictions.”
Other Greek islands also on the UK’s quarantine list include Lesvos, Tinos, Serifos, Mykonos and Santorini while the entire of Greece is on the list for Scotland.
Greece has slammed the quarantine rules enforced by the UK government, claiming the country is “below England’s own coronavirus infection rate rules”.
The country’s tourism minister Harry Theoharis told the Guardian: “From the point of view of headline numbers, it’s a decision that is unfortunate and unfair.”
He explained: “There have been 13 cases per 100,000 people in the last seven days in Greece, which is below other countries and below the UK’s own self-imposed yardstick.”
“We are very much hoping it will be reviewed as soon as possible.”
There are still some Greek islands which remain off the quarantine list, however, where you can go on holiday.
Corfu, Rhodes and Kos are all on the menu, with bargain package holiday deals.
