Jeff Bezos, the founder and former CEO of Amazon, and his fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, a former news anchor and a philanthropist, were among about 200 guests at a White House state dinner on Wednesday.

The couple went public with their relationship in 2019, following Bezos’ split from his ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott.

President Joe Biden hosted the dinner for the prime minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, to celebrate the relationship between the two countries.

JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and BlackRock chief Larry Fink were also there, along with former President Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and the actor Robert DeNiro.

SoftBank’s founder Masayoshi Son and the former Mitsubishi chairman Ken Kobayashi were also on the invite list.

The Washington Post called the event “full of formality and lacking subtlety.”

Jill Biden had the State Floor of the White House transformed into what she dubbed a “vibrant spring garden” for the event. Guests were treated to a three-course meal inspired by American and Japanese cuisine.

Business and tech leaders are no strangers to state events.

Last year, the White House hosted a dinner for India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi. Guests included Tim Cook, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
