Innovative craft drinks company launches new premium gin

Innovative drinks business The Start-Up Drinks Lab has launched a new gin.

Based in Port Glasgow, the business branded the new product Inverclyde Gin, with the tagline ‘made for locals by locals.’

The Start-Up Drinks Lab, which won the Food and Drink Award at the Insider Made In Scotland Awards 209, is renowned for its craft drinks and innovative recipes.

The latest is a premium gin that has been created and produced by six local Inverclyde locals who have been involved in every stage of the process, including the eye catching design of the bottle which includes an image of the local employee who has bottled the gin.

Craig Strachan Co-Founder of the The Start Up Drinks company said : “Our ethos is all about helping drinks brands, regardless of their size, take their products through from concept to shelf in as little as three months.

“We have our own, dedicated small batch bottling facility as well as helping other companies with their visions, we wanted to do something for the people of Inverclyde and create a gin that really represented the strong community that lives here.”

And with alcohol sales up 46% in July 2020 according to market research firm Kantar, the fastest rise in alcohol sales since records began 26 years ago, the appetite for gin is as strong as ever.

Helping to lead the operation is brand captain Calvin McKenna, who said: “The response so far has been extremely positive.

“We are a small batch gin and the first batch of 250 bottles sold really quickly, with pre-orders for the second batch now in production.

“The local hospitality industry has also been incredibly supportive, with many local bars and pubs choosing to stock it as one of their house gins.

“The goal now is to continue to roll the gin out across the country. It is a very exciting time for us and it has given both our team and the local community a real boost during these strange and uncertain times.”
