WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking
Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, today joined
Fox Business Network’s Kudlow to discuss
the latest on the Infrastructure
Investment and Jobs Act
and also the Senate Democrats’ reckless tax and spending spree.

HIGHLIGHTS
:

ON GENERATING AMERICAN ENERGY:
“I think that by having a vibrant infrastructure package
that modernizes America and our transportation, I think it really strengthens
our country in a lot of different ways. But, let’s talk about the electric vehicle
aspects of this… I can accept that we need an infrastructure to be able to amp
up our cars, but at the same time, that electricity has to come from somewhere.
This is where I think the big disconnect is. That electricity in this country
is still going to be coming from natural gas, from coal, from nuclear because
they hold the baseload fuels for our electric grid. So, it’ll be very important
if we’re going to go more electric that we generate more power, and all sources
will be the beneficiary of that.”

ON FOCUSING ON CORE INFRASTRUCTURE:
“This $3.5 trillion reckless bill that’s coming right
after the physical infrastructure bill, absolutely is a straight up Green New
Deal, along with re-social engineering our entire country. That is very
worrisome and I think we’re going to fight that one tooth and nail. But we do
believe—and I believe—that physical infrastructure, core infrastructure—airports,
rail, broadband, all of these things—to give a big boost to that, would benefit
everybody, and I think we would have the resulting economic growth…  I think it’s backed up in looking at what the
impacts of what the big investments have had in the past.”

ON INCLUSION OF EPW COMMITTEE BILLS:
“There are two major portions of [the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act]
that were written in my committee—I’d say at least the first 1000 pages—so I’m
very much aware of what’s going on. Remember, I started the negotiations with
the framework with the president to begin with. So, a lot of this is what I put
into the original bill.”
