Ian Wright urges Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to give Donny van de Beek a chance after Crystal Palace stalemate

Ian Wright has urged Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to give Donny van de Beek more opportunities in the side following their drab 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

The Red Devils struggled to create clear-cut chances and produced just one shot on target as they dropped points at Selhurst Park.

Solskjaer’s side have now endured back-to-back goalless draws in the Premier League which has seen them fall 14 points behind league leaders Manchester City.

Van de Beek has found regular playing time hard to come by since his £40million move from Ajax in the summer and has started in the league on just two occasions.

Given that United’s creativity has dried up of late, Arsenal legend Wright feels ‘there must be a space’ in the side for the midfielder to be given more chances to prove himself.

‘You look at someone like Donny van de Beek and I think to myself, ‘that’s a great signing’,’ Wright told Optus Sport.

‘You’re talking about players who come through an academy [Ajax] where it’s all about technique and quality and trying to progress the ball.

‘He can’t get nowhere near it at the moment, I’m not sure if it’s because he’s not the kind of player that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants.

‘We’re talking about a player who can play at 6, 8 or 10. When you’ve got somebody who can play in those kind of [positions] you’ve got to try find a way, especially when you look at yesterday [Palace] and the lack of creativity.

‘I’ve not seen him have the opportunity yet up to this point at Man United to get a run to try and show what he’s capable of doing.

‘And I do kind of feel for him at the moment because there must be a space for him at least to try now, especially when you see how they’re playing.’
