I can’t believe the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is already this cheap

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is one of the most cutting edge, premium smartphones on the market right now – a compact Android phone that folds in half, takes great photos, has top performance, and delivers a sweet hit of nostalgia for the flip phones of the early 2000s.

This tech doesn’t normally come cheap. When Express.co.uk awarded the Z Flip 5 a rare five stars in our review, the phone cost £1,049. That’s why we’re blown away with this amazing deal from UK mobile provider Giffgaff, which is selling ‘like new’ refurbished models of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 for an unbelievable £519 – that’s under half price for a phone that is guaranteed to be in excellent condition.

That’s a superb price for a top shelf phone that came out on August 2023, just eight months ago.

So, what does refurbished mean here? Refurbished phones are phones that have been bought but returned to Giffgaff either during their return period, under a warranty claim, or as a trade-in. Giffgaff services these phones by cleaning them and testing them, and then sells them according to their condition. This £519 ‘like new’ Z Flip 5 offer says the phone will come with no wear or tear, a 24-month warranty, and at least 80% of its original battery capacity.

If you’ve had your eye on a foldable phone but haven’t been able to justify the spend, this could be your ticket to a futuristic flipper. The main upgrade from previous Z Flip models is the phone’s outer display. When closed, the dinky OLED on the outside can be used to view full apps, type messages, take photos, and more without having to fully flip open the phone.

In our testing we found this is great for glancing at information, changing tracks on Spotify, or replying to a quick text without opening the phone and getting sucked into a half-hour doomscroll on social media.

Best of all, the phone comes unlocked ready to use on any UK mobile network – it isn’t locked to Giffgaff or any other provider. If you select ‘Pay in full’, you can simply buy the handset with no contract.

The size of the Z Flip 5 is also one of its biggest draws. There aren’t many smaller phones out there whe it’s closed, and you can fit it in smaller pockets and bags compared to the usually much larger non-folding phones.

At the time of writing, Giffgaff has the Z Flip 5 in stock in the graphite and mint colours. It’s also available for as little as £419 if you don’t mind buying the phone in ‘good’ condition, though expect some cosmetic damage. Given you may well put the phone in a case, this might not matter to you.
