'How many more coronavirus deaths before 'winging-it' Johnson feels shame?'


Few decisions are more crucial than when and how to ease the lockdown.

Lives and livelihoods depend on the Government getting this judgement right.

Instead of treading carefully Boris Johnson has adopted a scattergun approach, sowing confusion at a time when people needed clarity.

Keir Starmer is correct to say the Prime Minister appears to be winging it.

The lockdown has been eased even though the alert level remains at stage 4 which means there is still a high risk of contagion.

Downing Street says it is being guided by its own five tests but its own document says these tests “must be warranted by the alert level”.

Schools have been allowed to reopen even though the medical advice was for the test and trace system to be fully operational.

This is clearly not the case when contact tracers say they are spending their time watching Netflix.

Mr Johnson today said he was proud of the Government’s response.

When will Johnson show some shame?

How many more deaths will it take before he feels any shame?

The murder of George Floyd has once again shone a spotlight on America’s treatment of its black community.

Across the world there has been revulsion at police brutality and the way African Americans continue to be victims of discrimination.

While Britain can claim to have a better record on race relations than the United States, racism remains depressingly prevalent.

The Government has yet to prove black lives matter to them in the pandemic

You can see it in the response to the coronavirus. Even though the black and Asian community are more likely to die from Covid-19 the Government has yet to come up with a specific plan to protect them.

Yesterday tens of thousands of people were on the streets asking for their voices to be heard. We should listen to them.
