Hedge fund boss Odey ‘lunged’ at junior female banker, court hears

Hedge fund boss Crispin Odey ‘lunged’ at a junior investment banker and thrust a hand up her skirt, a court heard today.

In the first day of a trial at Hendon Magistrates’ Court, Odey (pictured) maintained his plea of not guilty on a charge of indecent assault against the accuser, who was 26 at the time of the alleged incident around 20 years ago.

Prosecutor Kerry Broome told the court that Odey, who was 39 at the time, has accepted he propositioned the woman for sex but denies assaulting her.

Broome said the hedge fund manager invited the alleged victim to his home in Chelsea in 1998 after a client meeting at Odey Asset Management.

He was then said to have showered and changed into a robe, before sitting next to the woman and putting his hand on ‘her breast down her shirt’ and ‘his other hand up her skirt’.

Odey, defended by Crispin Aylett QC, was said to have told police in 2019 that there was no physical assault and the woman had exaggerated what took place.

A fervent supporter of Brexit, Odey also donated £10,000 to prime minister Boris Johnson’s leadership campaign.

The trial continues tomorrow.
