Head to Warwick Castle for a historic day out that’s fun for all the family

WHETHER you’re a history buff or don’t know your Tudors from your Stewarts, Warwick Castle is a fantastic day out for all the family.

After entering through the stables for temperature checks and hand gel, we made our way under the imposing keep to enter the main castle complex.

With historical info spread throughout the site, you are free to wander the medieval halls and stately bedrooms at your own pace but we took a tour with Ben, one of the interesting guides, which gave us the chance to learn all the castle’s secrets and ask lots of questions.

We ran into the Earl of Warwick and Lady Isabel as well as a very elegant Princess Florence.

The costumed actors interact with guests, bringing the whole experience to life, and the kids really loved it.

The Earl told us about his adventures in France and Lady Isabel spilled the beans about the love poetry the Earl writes for her.

Toby, nine, got some tips for starting his knight training and five-year-old Verity learnt that the castle was actually founded by a warrior princess.

Fascinated Toby called the experience “so much better than a book!”.

The highlight of Verity’s day was seeing an amazing selection of birds of prey take to the skies in the riverside arena, while hearing the story of the Falconer’s Quest to return the amazing birds to Warwick.
