Gareth Bale hits back at Jamie O'Hara's claims he disrespected Tottenham

Gareth Bale has hit back at claims he “disrespected” Tottenham with comments regarding a return to Real Madrid.

The forward is in the midst of a season-long loan in north London, but his campaign has not gone as planned.

Injuries, a lack of opportunities and inconsistent form has tempered what was a highly anticipated return for the Welshman.

Bale has seemed to imply that he doesn’t anticipate remaining at Tottenham beyond this season.

Jamie O’Hara took issue with his comments which he labelled as “disrespectful”.

He said on TalkSport : “As players we’ve all said things in press conferences and thought, ‘I probably shouldn’t have said that…’ I don’t think he’s meaning to be disrespectful for Spurs and Spurs fans, because he’s done so well there over the years… but it was disrespectful.

“As a Spurs fans we all loved him. In terms of what he’s done for Spurs, you can’t take away the fact he was the guy for Spurs for a while, he was amazing.

“But has he tarnished his legacy?”

“I’ve played with Gareth and I’ve always said this, he had a quiet arrogance about him. He believed in his own ability, he knew where he wanted to be.

“He didn’t go out with the lads or really mix with them too much, but he had a quiet arrogance over where he wanted to go as a football player.

“But I feel like when you start to come to the back-end of your career and you start going down, you’ve got to humble yourself a little bit and get in the real world, because you can tarnish a lot of the great things that you’ve done by saying something like he did.”

Bale though has dismissed such claims and insists he is simply acting as per his contract.

The Welshman has a year remaining on his deal with Los Blancos and will assess his options after this summer’s Euros.

He said: “Legally my contract says I have to go back to Real Madrid. I don’t think I was being disrespectful to anybody.

“Big end of season with Tottenham, then Euros. After my summer holiday I will sit down and hopefully come up with a solution.”
