Forget the Galaxy S24 Ultra – Google's Pro phone is now seriously affordable

It’s no secret that smartphones can get very expensive when you’re shopping for the best handsets out there, which is why this latest discount on the Google Pixel 8 Pro caught our eye. The latest high-end Google smartphone packs in excellent triple cameras that take some of the best still images we’ve ever seen from a phone, as we pointed out in Express.co.uk’s glowing review of the gadget when it launched back in October.

One of the downsides of the Pixel 8 Pro is it’s the most expensive Pixel phone ever with an RRP of £999 – but right now you can pick up this excellent device for £799, a full £200 off. You can buy the phone directly from Google or from trusted spots such as Amazon and Currys.

£799 is a stellar price for the Pixel 8 Pro, undercutting the £1,249 Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra by a whopping £450. In our eyes that makes it one of the best Android deals right now. It’s worth noting the £799 price is for the 128GB storage model of the Pixel whereas the cheapest S24 Ultra comes with 256GB.

If you need more storage, Google, Amazon and Currys are selling the 256GB Pixel 8 Pro for £859, £200 off the £1,059 RRP.

“The Google Pixel 8 Pro is a superb all-round smartphone with an excellent screen, amazing cameras, solid performance and decent battery life,” we said in our review of the Pixel 8 Pro. “It’s a big phone – many are these days – but it packs in better specs and cameras compared to the smaller, cheaper Pixel 8.”

If you don’t need the S Pen stylus you’ll find tucked into the S24 Ultra and prefer the look of Google’s design then this is the best price we’ve seen yet for the company’s newest and best flagship smartphone. The Pixel 8 Pro is sitting pretty at number three in Express.co.uk’s rundown of the best phones you can buy right now, only behind the S24 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max – but it’s hard to truly rank phones in a numbered countdown because everyone’s wants and needs are different.

There’s no doubt the Pixel 8 Pro is one of the best out there, and it’s a long term investment too given that Google is promising seven years of software support – so the phone will last you until 2030 (though you’ll probably have to get a battery replacement somewhere along the way).
