Forever 21 in Chico to close – Chico Enterprise-Record

CHICO — Still working to inch out of bankruptcy, Forever 21 has decided to close its store in Chico.

Signs saying the store is closing have gone up at the Chico Mall.

The national company announced in September that it would be filing for bankruptcy protection and would likely close poor-performing stores. The Los Angeles-based company announced it hoped to close 178 of its U.S. stores, along with many of its stores in Asia and Europe.

The company was known for inexpensive clothing for young women and men.

While the store will be open until Jan. 5, according to an employee on Friday, an internet search said it is “permanently closed” already.

Last month the mall announced that the department store H&M will be opening in spring 2020 but the mall said it is not going into the Forever 21 space. Its destination has not been announced yet.

Also this week, Sears Holding announced it would be closing the Chico Kmart in another round of Sears and Kmart closings. That will occur in February.
