Facebook employee killed in Fremont collision | News – The Almanac Online

A bicyclist killed in a collision with a vehicle in Fremont early Wednesday morning, Aug. 28, has been identified as a 28-year-old man who worked as a software engineer for Facebook.

Kiranjot Deol, a Fremont resident identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau as the victim, was traveling north on Boyce Road between Stewart Avenue and Auto Mall Parkway at about 5:10 a.m. Wednesday when a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old man struck and killed him, according to Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques. The driver stopped, cooperated with investigators and submitted to blood tests. The collision remains under investigation, Bosques said Thursday.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Deol had worked as a software engineer at Facebook since 2013.

“We were incredibly saddened to hear of Kiranjot’s passing,” Facebook spokesman Anthony Harrison said in a statement. “We are offering our support to his family at this difficult time.”
