The gold rush of free electricity in northern Kosovo is ending. For years now, in the wake of Kosovo’s 1990s war for independence from Serbia, some electricity customers found they were not being billed for their power consumption. So in moved cryptocurrency mining operations — which rely on huge electricity usage. But power bills are finally in the mail.
