Electric car: UK has the second-largest EV market in Europe as sales ‘accelerate at speed' – Express

Fully electric models were the most popular form of alternative vehicles according to April’s car registration figures from the SMMT.

This was a 566 percent increase on the 1,374 cars sold in April last year.

So far in 2021, a total of 40,931 battery-electric models have been sold compared with just 19,630 at this stage last year.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said: “As hosts of COP26 we want to drive decarbonisation on the global stage, which is why we’re going further and faster to make the journeys of our future as clean as possible.
