El Metro ending free transportation services – Laredo Morning Times

After four months of offering free rides to bus passengers, El Metro announced Tuesday that they will resume collecting fares on all services July 31.

“Earlier in the coronavirus pandemic, many transit agencies stopped collecting fares to reduce interactions between passengers and drivers. Now, El Metro will face a delicate task to safely reintroduce fares to the community,” read a press release from the City of Laredo.

Most other safety measures remain in place as COVID-19 continues to spread through the community. Face coverings are required on the bus and at bus stops, passengers are instructed to sit in every other seat to allow social distancing and limited capacity is still in effect. A maximum of 18 people are allowed on the bus, and four in El Lift vans.

The bus fare is $2 for adults, $1.50 for students, $0.75 for children, $0.75 for seniors during peak hours and $0.25 for seniors during off hours.
