EE’s identity checker helps firms protect customers against fraud

This happens when a customer’s phone number is transferred without the account holder’s knowledge allowing swindlers to intercept calls and gain unauthorised access to online accounts. A checker feature allows businesses to know when a customer’s SIM was last changed, potentially indicating fraud, while a Digital Divert feature confirms no call diversions have been made.

A Know Your Customer service can identify a phone that has been lost or stolen, saving time on further verification checks.

Christian Thrane, BT consumer marketing managing director commented: “We are committed to innovating to help protect customers from fraud and are already working closely with a number of industries, including banking, e-commerce and gaming, to protect millions of transactions every day.

“We are continuing to move into new sectors to help prevent even more fraudulent activity, so consumers across the UK can be confident in the safety of their online experiences.”
