A FOOLISH driver has been blasted by police for hogging the middle lane of a motorway.
Officers posted footage of the car after it was caught dangerously sitting in the middle lane at just 45mph.
Video from the incident shows the female motorist slowly driving along the quiet 70mph motorway while the inside lane was completely empty.
Other motorists are then forced to move into the fast lane to overtake, while one driver has no choice but to undertake her in order to leave at the next junction.
The driver even refuses to move into the slow lane when a police car goes flying past with its blue lights on.
According to Central Motorway Police Group, officers pulled over the offender and reported her for driving without due care.
Since 2013, police have had the power to hand out on-the-spot fines for drivers cruising along in the middle lane.
If cops see you travelling in the middle lane when not overtaking another vehicle, they can hand you a £100 fine and three penalty points.
Rule 264 of the Highway Code states: “You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear.
“If you are overtaking a number of slow-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past.”
Brits can also be charged with careless driving when hogging the middle lane as it can cause a number of issues, including congestion and unnecessary lane changes.
Social media users have been quick to blast the driver for their selfish actions, with one person saying:
“This is my biggest pet hate. Who are you overtaking there? So stupid.”
Another added: “More people should be pulled up for this it causes so much frustration with other drivers.”
Last year, a driver was fined £100 for hogging a middle lane for three miles.
