Dispatch receives $7K in relief funds from Google – The Commercial Dispatch

The Dispatch has received $7,000 through the Google News Initiative’s Journalism Emergency Relief Fund.

Google established the fund to support small and medium-sized news organizations producing original news for local communities in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The money will help The Dispatch fund a photojournalist internship this summer and will also help with some technology upgrades needed as a result of newsroom members working remotely, Publisher Peter Imes said. The newspaper received the money last week.

“These funds, combined with others we’ve received, have allowed us to dramatically expand our coverage of the greater Golden Triangle area through photography,” Imes said. “This is a crucial time for journalism, and we appreciate the assistance from the Journalism Emergency Relief Fund.”
