Major League Soccer clubs Inter Miami and DC United are reportedly battling it out to sign former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge.

The 31-year-old began his career at Manchester City and had spells at Stamford Bridge and Anfield before joining Trabzonspor in August 2019.

But Sturridge has been a free agent since his contract at Turkish outfit Trabzonspor was mutually terminated on March 2, 2020, just hours before he was handed a four-month ban from all football for breaching betting rules.

The ex-England forward may now have the chance to revive his career, with David Beckham’s Inter Miami and DC United both keen on snapping him up, according to the Mirror.

The MLS clubs are said to have made contact with Sturridge’s representatives over a prospective free transfer ahead of the upcoming season.

Inter Miami co-owner Beckham and manager Phil Neville have also brought in Ryan Shawcross from Stoke City, while ex-Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs has agreed to join from West Bromich Albion at the end of the season.

French World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi and ex-Juventus and Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain are some of the stars already within the club’s ranks, and Beckham wants even more top-class talent to make the switch.

‘Miami as a city has that pull on players that have been playing in Europe and that are big stars and we have proved that already with Blaise and Gonzalo,’ Beckham told ESPN last week.

‘Miami is a great city for families to live. There was always going to be talk when we announced Miami over what players we would be bring, whether it was Ronaldo, whether it was Messi, whether it was Neymar.

‘There was always going to be those discussions. But I actually don’t think it is a tough one for players to decide to be honest because it’s a great place.’
