Cristiano Ronaldo 'wanted PSG move' before coronavirus pandemic hit

Cristiano Ronaldo almost made the switch to PSG because he was “unhappy” at Juventus only to see the coronavirus pandemic curtail the move.

The Portuguese star has just completed his second year in Italy having moved from Real Madrid.

Ronaldo has been criticised in some circles for failing to deliver the Champions League to Turin having dominated the competition with Los Blancos.

But his desire to play alongside Kylian Mbappe and Neymar almost saw him make the move to the Parc des Princes, reports France Football.

Ronaldo’s frustrations seemed to boil over back in November of last year when Juventus secured a late win at Lokomotiv Moscow.

It was a below par performance in which the five-time Ballon D’or winner failed to find the back of the net or provide for a team-mate.

The 35-year-old was close to scoring before Aaron Ramsey stabbed home with the ball on the line prompting an interesting reaction from Ronaldo.

But having enjoyed the glitz and glam of the Premier League and then Madrid he has struggled in Turin.

Ronaldo is a global brand which appealed to PSG’s Qatari owners who have cashed in off the pitch as well as on it as they turn the French side into a worldwide powerhouse.

But the outbreak of Covid-19 put pay to the transfer despite one source claiming a move was “very probable”.

And the global pandemic has impacted massively on club finances making a delayed summer transfer unlikely.

Ronaldo recently picked up his second Serie A title despite some questionable form from Juventus in the second half of the season.

The Coppa Italia again evaded him however and the Bianconeri must overcome a first-leg defeat to progress past Lyon in the last 16 of the Champions League.
