Drew Amnesty Days

Dec. 1 through Dec. 31 have been set as Amnesty Days in the City of Drew. During this time participants may come to the Drew Police Dept. and pay on fines and fees from original offenses and set up new payment plans. The assessment for failure to pay will be waived and the remaining balance will be reduced by 25%. Additionally, participants who appear during Amnesty Days will not be arrested for an outstanding warrant for failure to pay.

MVSUAA

Membership Drive

The Sunflower County Chapter of the Mississippi Valley State University National Alumni Association will have a “Membership Drive & Holiday Mixer” from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the BB King Museum.  There will be food, fun, fellowship and FREE admission.  Special guests include Arlencia Barnes, Miss MVSU 2019-2020, John McCall III, Mr. MVSU 2019-2020 and Kylon Alford-Windfield, MVSU’s Director of Alumni Relations. All alumni and associate members are welcome to become a part of this organization.  Local dues are $60 per year and national dues are $100 per year (benefits include 10% off book store purchases/membership card/direct support to MVSU).  You may contact Emma Golden at 662-347-4761 for more information.

Bears Den Reunion Meeting

There will be a Bears Den Reunion meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday at Tom and Betty Robinson’s home on Gentry Drive.

Food Box Pick Up

The Sunflower County/Bill Richardson Civic Alliance Group will issue food boxes from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9 and from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 to those certified to receive food boxes. Boxes not picked up by 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday will then be issued from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m. to persons on the waiting list. The Group does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability (not all prohibited bases apply to all programs).

♦ Join us for our Deal or No Deal program on Thursday, Dec. 12 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Henry Seymour Library, Indianola.

♦ Join us in making a Book Wreath on Tuesday, Dec. 17 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Henry Seymour Library, Indianola.

♦ Join us for our Christmas Buttons with Santa program on Thursday, Dec. 19 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Henry Seymour Library, Indianola.

♦ The Sunflower County Library System is now offering Hoopla, a digital media lending service. You can instantly borrow eBooks 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with your library card. So, stop by or call any branch to get started.  

♦ Please note that the Kathy June Sheriff Public Library in Moorhead is now open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Christmas Dinner

No time for cooking a big meal? Then come out and enjoy a home-cooked meal and fellowship at Ruleville’s Community Christmas Dinner which will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at William Chapel Church’s Fellowship Hall. Take pictures near the tree, maybe even talk to Santa, or be a helper! Donations of canned goods, food dishes and financial contributions will be accepted and pickups will be available. Twice-Monthly FREE Clothes Give-Away

Jesus is the Way Seventh Day Adventist Church, located at 600 Church Street, hosts a twice-monthly FREE clothes give-away from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the first Tuesday and second Saturday of every month. The next dates will be Saturday, Dec. 14 and Tuesday, Jan. 7. Clothes and shoes are available for all sizes. For more info, contact Elder Herbert Clark at 662-303-0748.

Ram Alumni Meeting

The Ram Alumni Homecoming Committee will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 at the Bethune Center. All alumni are asked to come out to complete plans for the 2020 summer event.

MSU Extension Service

♦Sunflower Stitchers meets from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. the 3rd Wednesday of every month. The next date will be December 18th. Please call the office (887-4601) if you are interested in joining this group.

♦Make your New Year’s resolution to improve your health habits by joining the Fit4Life Senior Citizen Exercising Class, which will resume in January, in a FREE video-led fitness class from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Thursday at the Extension office. Please call 887-1901 to sign up.

B.B. King Museum Events

♦ Piano and Guitar Lessons! Come by the museum to register!

♦ Be Smart – Take Control of your Diabetes meets during the noon hour every 4th Thursday of the month. Due to the holidays, the next meeting will be Jan. 23.

Reading and Math

Tutoring

Tutoring services are being offered by Trinity Outreach Church, located at 504 Roosevelt Street. Students ages 5 to 14 receive Reading and Math instruction from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Refreshments are provided. Contact Pastor Charlene Walker at 662-574-6773 for more info.
