Chico looking for small dwelling plans – Chico Enterprise-Record

CHICO — The city is looking for a designer for its new accessory dwelling unit prototype, and according to one official, Chico would love to have the plan locally designed.

With the housing crunch caused by Camp Fire, the city has relaxed its rules for accessory dwelling units, called ADUs, that allow construction of basically a tiny house next behind an existing one, on one lot.

To speed up the process even more, the city is moving forward with prototype designs that will be pre-approved and permit-ready that a builder can get for free from the city.

Community Development Director Brendan Vieg noted the city is looking for several plans of different sizes that could be pre-approved.
