CHICAGO (CBS) — A Chicago Police officer was struck and dragged by a car Monday evening as police said the car fled from a traffic stop near the 95th Street Chicago Transit Authority Red Line terminal.
The incident happened around 8:10 p.m. in the 9500 block of South Lafayette Avenue, police said.
Officers were pulling over a car at the location when the driver sped off with an officer hanging onto the driver side door, police said.
The white Chevrolet Impala dragged the officer, and later collided with a steel pillar, causing the officer to be ejected, police said.
The officer then struck another fixed object, police said.
The officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The Fire Department said he was in serious condition.
A second officer was taken to unknown hospital for observation only, the Fire Department said.

A witness, Matheyas Myers, told CBS 2’s Jermont Terry he was standing on the corner at the time and witnessed the crash.
“I just seen a car going east over there – the white car. I see them in a high-speed chase. The next thing I know, boom! The car was crashed and I see the police on the ground,” Myers said. “I came over there to see if he was all right and everything, and after that, you know, they start bringing out the person that was driving.”
