Chelsea worry as Ben Chilwell limps out of England game with injury

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will be sweating on the fitness of Ben Chilwell after the England star limped out of his side’s clash against Belgium in the Nations League.

The former Leicester City full-back was starting at left-wing back in a 3-4-3 system for Gareth Southgate’s side and the onus was on him to provide attacking intent down the left.

However, Chilwell lasted just 38 minutes as he was forced off towards the end of the first half and the defender was seen holding his back as he made his way off the field.

Chilwell completed a £50m move to Stamford Bridge last summer but he patiently waited to make his debut as he was prevented from starting the season with injury.

Chelsea face Newcastle United at St James’s Park in their next game and Lampard will be nervously awaiting Southgate’s post-match press conference, where he’ll likely give an update on the defender’s condition.

England entered the break 2-0 down to Belgium, who scored through Youri Tielemans and Dries Mertens.
