Chelsea transfer target Kai Havertz pressuring Leverkusen to agree £70m deal by Thursday

Kai Havertz is “putting pressure” on Bayer Leverkusen to agree a transfer with Chelsea as he pushes for a move within the next week. The Germany international is eager to link up with Frank Lampard in west London.

Chelsea have already agreed terms with Havertz for him to sign a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge.

The attacker will become the third addition of the summer after Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner if Chelsea can seal an agreement with Bundesliga side Leverkusen.

But negotiations between the two clubs have been held up with the Premier League club wanting to pay around £70million – £20m less than Leverkusen’s valuation.

And as talks continue, Sky Sports transfer expert Kaveh Solhekol says the 21-year-old is making it clear to his current club that he wants the move.

His desire to leave may force Leverkusen into agreeing a deal for less than their valuation – and Havertz wants movement before next Thursday, when they face Rangers in the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie.

Havertz’s desperation to move to the English capital is borne out of a desire to play under Lampard.

Lampard is one of the most famous goalscoring midfielders in footballing history and is Chelsea’s all-time top scorer with 211 goals.

And having produced 17 goals and nine assists this term, after 20 goals and seven assists last season, Havertz has the potential to blossom into a similarly consistent goal-getter.

The playmaker, who can also play as a centre-forward or as a right winger, has been sold by Lampard’s vision, per Solhekol.

“The latest we have on this deal, and this is significant news for Chelsea supporters, is that the player himself is very, very keen to move to Chelsea,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News.

“He’s almost putting pressure on Bayer Leverkusen to do a deal with Chelsea because he wants to play under Frank Lampard.

“Of course, Leverkusen are back in Europa League action next Thursday against Rangers.

“I think the feeling as far as Havertz himself is concerned is that he would like something sorted out with Chelsea before next Thursday.”

Chelsea’s summer plans also involve strengthening defensively, with left-back a problem position for Lampard to sort.

Neither Marcos Alonso or Emerson Palmieri are deemed suitable for the job the Londoners’ all-time top goalscorer wants them to do in the role.

And Leicester’s £80m-rated Ben Chilwell is his No 1 target for the position.

Solhekol added: “What is on the agenda for Chelsea in the short term is the FA Cup final against Arsenal on Saturday.

“That is what Frank Lampard is focusing on at the moment. But of course in the background there are talks being held, plans being made, about their transfer strategy this summer.

“They’ve already got Hakim Ziyech, they’ve already got Timo Werner as well.

“What Lampard really wants is a new goalkeeper and he also wants another left-back.

“His number one target is Ben Chilwell. But he has other targets as well in the left-back position including Nicolas Tagliafico, he would be a lot cheaper than Chilwell, he would cost around £20m.
