Chelsea are targeting a move for Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to reports.

The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest young midfield talents in Ligue 1 having joined Monaco from Bordeaux in a £16 million deal a year ago.

Tchouameni has quickly established himself at the heart of Monaco’s midfield and he has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe.

Borussia Dortmund were linked with Tchouameni, while Real Madrid have also considered him as an alternative signing to Rennes’ 18-year-old midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

But according to ESPN, Chelsea are also in the running to sign Tchouameni.

The report claims that Chelsea are keeping tabs on the midfielder’s progress at Monaco and are looking to strengthen their midfield options in the summer, regardless of whether Frank Lampard is still the manager.

Speaking earlier this month, Lampard suggested that Chelsea’s priority is to trim the squad before securing any new arrivals.

‘I have ideas,’ said Lampard.

‘We have a big squad, we’ll have to see if that changes, if there are opportunities for players who aren’t playing so much. That will be a conversation between the player, club and myself.

‘Then we’ll see if we can strengthen in the right way, but we’re not jumping up and down to do so. My focus this year is purely on work because we have new players, because we have young players, so I’m focusing on that.’
