Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is considering an offer from Chelsea after the Blues made an approach for the Germany international, according to reports in Spain.

Frank Lampard is keen to sign a new goalkeeper this summer after losing faith in Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was replaced by Willy Caballero for the Blues’ final game of the season against Wolves.

Ter Stegen, 28, is considered one of the finest goalkeepers in the world and his ability on the ball appeals to Lampard, who wants his side to improve their play out from the back next term.

Barcelona are keen on extending ter Stegen’s current deal, which expires in 2022. However, the club warned the German earlier this month that he needs to drop his wage demands due to the coronavirus pandemic.

‘He understands what is happening in society and he knows that with the decrease in income at clubs like Barca, he will have to adjust his salary,’ said Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

‘All the players are doing it and we are working on that.’

However, ter Stegen has not reacted well to those comments and told reporters that ‘we’ll see’ when he was asked if he would sign a new deal at the Camp Nou earlier this week.

According to Spanish radio network Cadena Ser, Barcelona’s desperation for a renewal is not matched by ter Stegen’s camp and the German has offers on the table from both Chelsea and Bayern Munich to consider.

While an extension at the club remains the likeliest, Chelsea are ready to test the waters in their search for a new number one.

Should a new goalkeeper arrive, Chelsea will look to offload Kepa.

The Spaniard was signed for £71m in 2018 but he’s failed to impress in his two campaigns at Stamford Bridge and the club will likely look to loan him out this summer should they be unable to find a buyer.

Chelsea haev already spent around £90m this summer and that spending could double with the arrival of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Lampard is also desperate to sign a left-back, though Leicester’s £80m valuation of Ben Chilwell is putting the Blues off a move for the England international.

Chelsea will look to recoup some cash by offloading Kepa, Marcos Alonso, Pedro, Willian and Emerson Palmieri.
