Chelsea are hoping to bring in a new left-back this summer and four players have been placed on their shortlist. However, Frank Lampard is willing to veto a deal this summer if he does not get his main man.
The Blues are on the verge of completing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz with just the fee left to be agreed.
Once that move goes through Lampard will turn his attention to fixing his side’s leaky defence.
A new left-back is a top priority and Leicester’s England international Ben Chilwell fits the bill perfectly.
However, the Foxes are under no pressure to sell the 23-year-old and have slapped an £80million price tag on his head.
It is unlikely Chelsea will pay such a substantial fee, especially after already shelling out over £80m on Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
Goal claims a list of alternatives have been drawn up which includes Ajax’s Nicholas Tagliafico, Porto’s Alex Telles and Getafe’s Marc Cucurella.
But the report adds that Lampard may shelve plans of signing a new full-back if he does not get Chilwell.
Goal suggests that the 42-year-old may stick with current left-backs Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri for the 2020/21 campaign.
Neither of those stars have yet been told they are surplus to requirements as Lampard wants his players focussed on this weekend’s FA Cup final against Arsenal.
“All we can offer is a wonderful environment to come and play, develop, work in and improve as a player.
“We will see where it goes from there over the course of the off-season.”
